The "Green Elephant" is minimalist in terms of plot, but makes up for it in the strength of its performances. The whole film is an intimate snap shot into the depravity experienced by the main characters, and serves as a small scale character study. The lack of structure, although frustrating from a narrative stand point, serves to add to the nightmarish quality of the film.

This experimental film alternates between symbolic depictions of events from the life of notorious Mormon murderer Gary Gilmore and sustained shots of barren landscapes and beehives.
